About Chuckwagon Bar-B-Que & Grill

Ever find yourself on a culinary adventure that takes you away from the hustle and bustle, only to discover a hidden gem along a winding country road? Chuckwagon Bar-B-Que & Grill in the quaint town of Velma, Oklahoma, offers just that kind of experience. Situated at 101 Hargrove St, this spot serves up a taste of Southern hospitality mixed with the tantalizing smoky aroma of good old-fashioned barbecue.

The moment you step through Chuckwagon's doors, the rustic charm envelops you like a favorite old sweater. The vibe here is laid-back and inviting, with a warm welcome from the staff putting you instantly at ease. A peek at the menu reveals the star of the show: their barbecue. From tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs to pulled pork that's been smoked to perfection, the offerings are as comforting as they are delicious.

It's not all about the meat, either. For those eager to explore beyond the barbecue, the chicken fried steak comes highly recommended. Paired with a pile of crispy fries or perhaps some creamy mashed potatoes, this dish is a classic that never goes out of style. Vegetarians aren't left out in the cold either; there are several sides and salads to ensure everyone leaves satisfied.

Then there's the unmistakable smell of hickory wood. As much a part of the ambiance as the lively chatter of locals sharing stories over a meal, it invites diners to slow down and savor every bite. And just when everything seems already perfect, along comes dessert. The homemade peach cobbler provides a sweet ending that rivals even the heartiest of entrees.

Reviews from patrons echo a recurring sentiment: consistency and quality are the hallmarks here. There's talk of the beef brisket being the best not just in Velma, but perhaps even across the state. Many rave about the generous portions and the sense of community; this isn't just a place to eat but a space to connect and make memories.

Parking is ample, so there's no need to circle the block before settling in at a cozy table. Chuckwagon Bar-B-Que & Grill may be a bit off the beaten path, but that's part of its charm. Whether just passing through or making a special trip, every visit feels like coming home. Between the rich, smoky flavors and the friendly faces, it's clear why this place garners such affection from locals and travelers alike. A must-visit for those chasing authentic barbecue and a true taste of Southern comfort.

The fajita were damn near perfect. Large portion and fast service. Passed by several times and noticed the huge parking lot was always full around lunch and knew there was gonna be good food. The menu is Half BBQ/Mexican food.

Got the chicken fry which was hand breaded and very tasty. The fried okra was very good. Others got bbq that they said was great & the Mexican food was also very good. Great place for good variety.

The ribs were heavily smoked as I love them. The brisket was fall apart tender. Holy cow, the barbecue sauce was hot, sweet and had a wonderful Mexican flair. Cumin? The ribeye tacos were also delicious. The salsa was off the hook, outrageously good! Heavy on sun-dried tomatoes, onions and cilantro. The okra was perfect. Crispy not crunchy and a buttery light corn crust. The refried beans, wow super tasty could stand to be slow cooked longer and a tad bit thicker like abuela used to make. Lastly, the Ice-T was strong and of high-quality. Exactly the way I enjoy it. My new favorite barbecue, Mexican restaurant.

It's a good place to eat. You have to order at the counter. The menus are in front of counter but under in box. They have bbq and Mexican food and steaks . I had shrimp beef and pork rib fajitas. Awesome. The pork ribs were delicious would buy by themselves.
